My heart is ready for Thanksgiving.
Most years Thanksgiving kind of sneaks up on me. To be transparent with you, I’ve had some awful Thanksgivings in the past, and I usually try not to think about the holiday season until it’s unavoidable. I want to like this holiday more than I actually do, as history hasn’t been kind to me on previous Thanksgiving Days. This year, however, I find myself anticipating it in a new way.
It’s been a crazy year, hasn’t it? For me personally, you know about the summer of disappointment and the autumn of grief. A few weeks ago, I told some friends: “I’m tired of bad news, hard times, and tears. I’m ready for something good.”
“Something good” hasn’t come sweeping over my life like a refreshing ocean wave, but goodness has come moment by moment. In renewed strength. In songs in my heart. In thankfulness for tiny things that aren’t so tiny.
In focusing on His presence in my story.
No matter what your year has held, I hope you know He has been with you each step of the way. The pain you’ve felt—He’s felt it with you. The tears you’ve cried—He’s recorded every single one of them. He hasn’t forgotten us or left us alone.
I am so thankful for Jesus. As I think about the fast-approaching end of 2021 and beginning of 2022, I just keep coming back to Him. These days may be long, but He’s doing something amazing. He makes the journey worth it.
What is He doing in your story this Thanksgiving?
