ACFW Conference 2021

The American Christian Fiction Writer‘s annual conference was last weekend. Although it was virtual, that didn’t stop me from getting away for it. I invited writing friend Becca Kinzer to come down from Illinois, and we rented a little 2-bedroom place about an hour from my house. It was so fun to spend time with Becca again, as I hadn’t seen her since the 2019 conference in San Antonio. Sometimes we’d talk for hours straight. Other times we lived the introvert’s best life of retreating to our rooms for naps or early bedtimes, or we’d read together in companionable silence. It was such a nice retreat from our everyday lives!

Sometimes Becca and I would watch the conference sessions together, or if we’d signed up for different ones I’d head to my bedroom and its handy built-in desk. That was also where I took my one-on-one appointments. The ACFW conference allows authors to meet with editors or agents to build relationships and pitch our projects. I was blessed to speak with the editor who already has my proposal and share more about what I’ve done in the past year to get ready for publication. I also got to speak to the agent I’ve long dreamed of working with. That conversation went better than I ever could have imagined! She requested to see my proposal as soon as possible, so I had it updated and in her inbox on Monday.

It’s very exciting to see others catch the enthusiasm for my story. While I wait to hear back from these ladies, I’m working on editing my project and researching Book 2.

I’m so thankful for all the ways ACFW has blessed my life. If you’re an aspiring writer, I strongly recommend checking them out.
